Capturing Analog Video for Final Cut Pro

I am recent purchaser/converter to Apple. Have IMac system OS-X 10.10.3 op system

I have a JVC analog recorder (dual SVHS recorder/DVD recorder) that plays my old SVHS video recordings

I'd like to be able to capture content of video tapes onto IMac to use them with either Final Cut Pro or IMovie

Currently, the Mac doesn't recognize the JVC unit. Apple Customer support says they don't have any drivers to support this tape deck. they referred me to JVC. No surprise, JVC has no drivers or solutions either.

I can't believe this is a unique problem

Anybody have any suggestions on what can be done/purchased to enable the IMac to capture the video?

Two ways:

1)Dub it to mini dv (digital tape) by connecting to a camera or deck.

2) buy or borrow an analog to digital converter box, like this.
