Urgent (going away today). iPad not detected.

I need some urgent help. 😮
My wife is heading away for a week and I left putting some stuff on her iPad until the last minute.
I've plugged it in and it's not being detected by iTunes. The iPad says it's not charging which I understand that means the PC has recognized it.
I've followed all of the help stages from Apple and some other websites. I've updated iTunes and the iPad. I've reset the network (although plugged directly), the PC and the iPad.
Both my iPad and my iPhone were being detected before the iTunes update but now neither of them are. They can wait but it's my wife's iPad that I need working asap.
Any suggestions?
