USB Port Problem

Hai. May i ask why would Macbook Pro will shut down or restart suddenly when insert the USB drive into USB port. It had happen twice. May i know is it hardware problem or software problem? Kindly advice. Thanks.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), Just bought August 2014.
