Downloading Mavericks

Downloading Mavericks

How difficult is it to load Mavericks and could I lose any files doing so. I have backed up my computer to an external hard drive.

Mac Book Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

You have to have downloaded Mavericks while it was offered on App Store - otherwise, you can only get Yosemite.

I did not lose any of my personal files when I updated.

If you have any outdated applications, they may not be compatible with Yosemite.

Do a backup before installing.

One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won’t have to go though the revert process.
