Q: Since this update was installed on my Macbook Pro, the startup time has gone from under 5 seconds to almost 15 seconds. Please Advise

The startup time i mentioned in the topic refers to the duration from the time the power button is pressed till the time i have to enter my login information.

    10 seconds ? blink of an eye.

    A minute longer, do a couple Safe Boots and Repair the drive.

    Before installing is also a good time to do those, AND make a bootable backup (safety net) "just in case."

     

    We are Mac Pro, not MacBook Pro forum; though I think Yosemite is most appropro for this question.

     

    Commonly heard: new OS runs slower / like molasses / broke compatibility. The 2011 and older MBP often have trouble and have minimum RAM (4GB) and older, slower SSDs or no SSD at all.

     

    You might even want to run and look at the output from Etrecheck and post results if you have any questions or it turns up anything.

     

    And make sure your system has 20% or more free space.
