Q: How can I test if the iphone carrier unlock worked if I can't get another sim card from another carrier? There is only one single carrier in my area.
I called Bell to have my iphone 4s unlocked for international travel. They unlocked it from their end and then provided me with the steps to finish the job on my end. The steps in a nutshell were, 1. connect to itunes and backup the phone. 2. go into the phone and "erase iphone" in settings. 3. connect to itunes and restore from backup.
After I did step 1, itunes alerted me that it could not continue until I installed the new version. I did so, and it skipped to step 3 without giving me a chance to erase the phone in step 2. After it restored, I went back to step 2, erased, then proceeded with step 3 a second time.
Because it happened this way I am concerned that it didn't work properly. The email Bell sent suggested at the end to test it with the sim card of a different carrier, but I do not have access to another sim card from another carrier because there is only one carrier (Bell) in the entire Yukon Territory where I am situated. I would have to drive for three days to find a new sim card and I don't have the freedom to do that. I don't want to find out it didn't work when I am overseas in Europe and unable to use a new sim card there with my phone, so is there another way I can know for sure that the unlock worked?
iPhone 4S, iOS 8.3
