If I buy HBO Now app, will it work on Apple TV?

I am looking to buy the HBO Now app, but I don't want to watch it from our iPad. I would like to be able to use the app from Apple TV (but I haven't purchased Apple TV yet). I am just making sure this is possible prior to making both of these purchases. Thanks for your help.
