Turn off all security software norton, mcafee, windows firewall, etc
are you using the usb cable that came with the device or a third party one?
You can also try another usb port on the computer and/or another usb cable if you have one.

You can also try to restart the phone by holding down the home button and the sleep/wake button at the same time to see if that helps.
Did this issue happen during an update or after an update? Or did the issue just happen randomly?
