Problem with Mail sign in to iCloud

About one third of the time I am asked to enter my appleID to access emails from the iCloud on my Mac. For some reason it doesn't always remember it.

This problem doesn't happen with my iPad or iPhone.

I have checked settings and deleted the ID then set it up again; the problem continues.

Broadband connection fine. No problems with other iCloud applications.
