iTunes 12: artist won't show up in remote app on an iPad Mini

which worked under iTunes 11.x, is no longer working for iTunes 12.x: artist won't show up in remote app on an iPad Mini.

Configuration:

Mac Mini, Maverick (latest update available), iTunes 12 ( latest update)

iPad Mini, iOS 8.3, Remote App 4.2.2

I did try to deactivate and reactivate the private/home share. This seems to be an iTunes 12 " feature", although sorting by artist is still working, only the artist names are shown on the iPad device.

Any recommendations or should I downgrade to iTunes 11?
