I purchased a new Macbook and transferred everything over from my old one. I would now like to give the old one to a relative but can't start it up. Any ideas?

I replaced my Macbook OS X with Macbook Pro and transferred all content. I now want to give the old macbook to a relative but cannot open it. It has my name and asks for password but will not accept current or any previous passwords. Does anyone have any ideas

hold option key while rebooting and there should be way to rest password or reinstall OS
