I've built many Playlists, but suddenly I'm not able to add songs to a new one. I've tried dragging them, I've right right-clicking and adding, and they never show up in the Playlist. What changed and what am I doing wrong?

Are you trying to add to a smart playlist, a playlist folder, a playlist on a synced device, or a playlist in a shared library? Those are not permitted actions. It is also not possible to add items that show with the exclamation mark which indicates that iTunes cannot find the tracks where it expects them to be.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I don't think any of the above. It's just your basic playlist in iTunes. I've done this many times before and never had a problem, but it's been a while. Now I can't add any song to the new playlist.

If the problem is associated with an update to iTunes then try repairing it from the programs and features control panel, or tear it all out and reinstall. See the second box in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for a guide.
