New Yosemite compatibility with older OS X

My mum recently bought me a new Mac with the OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 version however she has an OS X 10.8.3 version which is connected to the family printer.

I put my pages documents on a memory stick from my computer to take to print on the downstairs computer however the older Mac tells me that the pages file I want to open doesn't exist. I was thinking that maybe she needed to update her Mac to the Yosemite but I didn't know if there was a quicker way to make the files compatible with each other?

Thanks 🙂

If both Macs are connected to the same network, you can set up printer sharing on the one with the printer and print directly from yours.
