recently acquired G5 help

Good morning all. I just acquired a powermac g5 2003 s/N xb*****nvs.

I really want to get this thing up and going and use it for a learning/teaching computer for my children. Want to let them learn how to operate a computer with it without messing with my main laptop. I need a few things to get this beast going though.

1. Hard Drive

2. OS software. It looks like 10.5 is the highest it will take.

Does anyone have a Hard Drive (dont need much since its mainly going to be for my kids use) either with the OS installed or a Hard Drive and an OS disc? It would be a HUGE help!!

OR-

Any ideas where to purchase these items at a minimal price? I'm not even sure if there are any other problems with this desktop.

Hello,

On the Hard drive, make certain it's 1.5 Gb/s compatible, some newer ones are not.

OSX 10.5.8 is indeed the highest it'll run.

Leopard requirements/10.5.x...

* Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor

minimum system requirements

* 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)

* DVD drive for installation

* 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)

Classic/OS9 Apps no longer supported.

Trouble is Apple no longer sells it, check eBay & such for the Retail version, not the Gray Discs...
