Q: how do you drop or drag photo from Photos to anonther file

previously in iphoto or aperture i could just drag a thumbnail photo on an illustrator file and it would shot green circle and plus sign and the photo would appear in that file. now, i get the green dot and arrow but it is not there in the file.

how do you take a photo direct from Photos to a working file?

macbook pro, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You could use the sharing menu. Or you could export a version and open that in another app.

sharing does not have an option to share to a program - like illustrator.
and exporting works but is cumbersome - with additional actions that take away the advantage of what is a basic function in mac programs and others…

Is this possible a fix item that may be done in an update/
