Epson printer problem

I had issues with the Mac connecting to the Epson XP-412. Having restarted both with no success, I reset the printer function on the Mac and tried to reinstall the drivers. Now all I get is a systems extension error message

The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/hpPlugInInit.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.

I used the Apple link to down load there software updater.

Today it found new software to down load. It has done that but still given me the same HP error message even though its an Epson printer.

Good news is the printer is now showing inn the printer/scanner list so hope all is well. Just about to try to print.
