Check Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage to determine what's causing this.
Once you've done the above test, if you believe you have a hardware issue and your iPad is still under warranty (less than one year old with no user-caused damage), take it to an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Center for advice how to proceed.
