Computer blocked

I have an old iMac 5.1 with 1 GB memory. I was trying to move my photos onto an external hard drive but by mistake all 6000 were moved to my desktop. my computer is not blocked and although I have tried turning it off and on. It is still trying to load the photos. Any idea what I can do?
