Amazon prime movies in airplane mode?

Has anybody been successful in playing Amazon movies in airplane mode on an Ipad? I paid for movies and completely downloaded to the Ipad on wifi. But they won't play in airplane mode. Looks like you can go the other route and buy/download movies through Itunes and play them through Apple's video app. on the plane. May just have to buy Itunes movies and not Amazon when flying is in the forecast. Any suggestions?
