I have an iPhone 6 and my husband has an iPhone 4, when I send him a calendar invite he doesn't get them. Any advice?

I just went from an iPhone 5c to a 6, my husband has an iPhone 4. We both have gmail accounts and have always been able to invite each other to calander events, until now, since I upgrade to the iPhone6. we are no longer able to receive calendar invites from each other. Does this have to do with the 6 not talking to the 4? Thank you!
