Reformat old Mac hard drive on 10.5.8 osx version

Hi,

I am trying to get rid of my almost 9 yr old MacBook thats on 10.5.8 OS version and am trying to figure out how to reformat the HD before selling it. I understand from reading online that you can go to Disk Utility and select erase but for me the primary HD is grayed out so I cant even select it to do the reformatting. I am logged in as admin (only one account here) and there is only one HD (no partition).

Appreciate any insight you can provide!

In order to erase the disk drive you must be booted from another device.

It is usually suggested that you use the install DVD for the Mac which is actual part of it and should be included when see it.

If you boot from the DVD then you can erase disk drive.
