Airplay being interrupted by Safari

I have yosemite 10.10.3 and playing music using Airplay from Itunes (apple lossless files) to my apple TV (current model) or airport express (current model) is periodically stuttering.

I have tried everything to change the wifi situation. I have a airport extreme wireless router and every imaginable setting does not help. Direct to an airport express is the same problem. I used the recent Asus high end router... no difference.

I have seen TONS of articles referencing signal strength and every other manner of article on this subject of airplay problems. I went through many of these meticulously.

So finally I discovered that using routine browsing in safari replicates this problem. While browsing AVSforum as I often do, airplay will pause and restart randomly. I finally tacked this down to safari since this does not happen with Firefox browser.

I have to imagine that safari "takes over" the entire wifi signal whenever it feels like and does not share with airplay/itunes nicely.

I downloaded Airfoil (a third party app for connection to airplay) and it does not seem to have this problem. Airfoil intercepts audio output from itunes.

I can do almost anything with Firefox, changing websites in rapid succession, and no problems with airplay.

I had this issue too … I'm on Sierra but the symptoms sound the same. Fixed it by unchecking the "Include Safari Search Suggestions" option in Safari preferences.

The other settings don't seem to cause any issues, but if the problem recurs, I guess I'll try toggling a few of those as well. Anyway hope it helps someone.

Greetings KishoreY,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you are experiencing performance issues while using AirPlay between your Mac and your Apple TV. In this situation, I would recommend reading over and working through the steps outlined in the Resolve performance issues with AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring section in the attached article.

I have this same problem. I can stream Airplay and do just about anything with no problem... except use Safari. The minute I open Safari, or if already open, type anything into the search bar Airplay begins cutting out. I can replicate or even stop it by typing more characters, or stopping typing. Once I hit return to load a search or page, the music cuts in and out until the page is completely loaded. I have a newer Time Capsule, and new Apple TV, and 2 3rd gen Apple Tvs. The only thing that causes a problem is Safari. This didn't start until after my most recent software updates. I am on MacOS Sierra v 10.12.1 and Safari Version 10.0.1 (12602.2.14.0.7) The Apple support forum posted by the community specialist was not helpful.
