Macbook has died due to water damage. Is there any way I can salvage the hard-drive?

Macbook will no longer turn on after getting a little damp. When attached to charger the LED light that normally turns up green goes on very slightly (only visible in the dark). I am due for a replacement laptop but I need to try to salvage all my old files. If the hard-drive survived the water damage, how can I retrieve the old files?

If you have a non retina MBP or a retina MBP early 2013 or earlier, take out the HDD, install it in an enclosure and connect it to another Mac.

If you have a late 2013 retina MBP, you may try Target Disk Mode:

If no success, then see if an Apple store genius bar can assist you.
