Uploading photos to iCloud

I am uploading my entire photo library from my 11 inch Mac Book Air (OSX Yosemite 10.10.3) to iCloud from the new Photos App.

Other devices for which this will apply are an iPhone 6, and an iPad mini, both running iOS8.3.

I am “Optimizing Mac Storage”, and have taken out an iCloud subscription ($4.95 AUD per month for 200GB).

There are just under 15000 pics to upload (photography is my hobby). So far, in 2 weeks, only 4,500 have uploaded over our home Wifi.

I understand upload only takes place when the computer is on and has an Internet connection, but this process is slowing our home Wifi considerably, (I am not very popular....)and at this rate it will take 3 months or more to get everything uploaded.

Is there a quicker way?

Thank you

MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)
