Update messed up text messaging

I'm using an iPhone 6. Yesterday, I did the upgrade to IOS 8,3. Now, every time I try to send a text message, a 1 gets added to the beginning of the other cell phone number, and I get an error message saying that the number is too long. Can anyone help, please?
