Imessage Photo problem

Any photos or videos I send or receive. via imessage are only displayed in the message thread for one second, then they are replaced with a blank blue message cloud. I can only view the photos or video if I look under the " details" from the particular sender. Anyone else having this problem? I have done a full back up and restore, a reset, a power off, none of which helped.
