Cannot add Gmail to iPhone 6

Under Add Account - Google. Gmail window momentarily appears (slides up) and then immediately disappears (returns down) giving no opportunity to enter account details.

Problem occurred after I changed my Gmail account on my desktop. The force "enter new password" option on iPhone failed so I couldn't enter my new password. I deleted my Gmail account but cannot add it again. Even after completely restoring my iPhone to Factory Settings, it won't let me add my Gmail account. Exact same problem on my iPad.

Note: I can add any other account (e.g. Exchange, Yahoo). This problem only occurs with Gmail.

I have resolved this problem by entering my Gmail account manually following instructions for IMAP for Gmail. I have no idea why my iPhone won't accept Gmail by simply selecting the Gmail account option though!
