Why is the core service "mapspushd" contacting various (web)adresses? What's that service for?

Hello,

my firewall notified me that the core service "mapspushd" is occasionally contacting various (web)servers for example of various "news" sites (all over the world with varying TLDs, .co.uk, .ca, .com etc.), as well as service sites, such as ebay or advertising providers? – Got to be honest that is a bit dubious.

What is this core service for?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, i'm going to post my screenshots here too. Hope someone help us!

Edit: By the way, running a google search about "an tacoda net" , gives back all sorts of wonderful info about it. I really hope apple has nothing to do with such malware.

I have ran adware medic, and followed all security guides. I have no harmfull extensions, and nothing i can possibly think that can harm my mac.

It's most likely an app invoking "location based services".

Have a look in "System Preferences>Security & Privacy>Privacy Tab>Location Services". You can disabled this service by unchecking the "Enable Location Services" checkbox, or you can view/enable/disable certain apps which you explicitly want to give permission to be able to share/retrieve/use your current location.

For me this was enabled for Weather and "Evernote Helper". I disabled and have not seen "mapspushd" come up again. Other apps that are in there are things like google maps, spotlight etc. which would make sense....I have weather set to get info for certain cities so I didn't see the need or reason to enable it to make web calls with my location each time it wanted to update itself.

Good info here: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/76195/how-to-disable-location-services- macosx-10-6-8

There is not allot of search engine info when searching for "mapspushd" that mentions or points to "Location Services". Hopefully this post helps some people looking for info.
