I have created a playlist on iTunes on my mac book, however when i tried to convert that playlist onto my iPhone it would not work. Could someone please help me and tell what i need to do because i dont think i am doing it right.

Try syncing like this, with selected playlists, etc. Before that, go to Summary > Options and check the box for "sync only checked songs and videos."
