User uploaded file

when checking the storage space on my mac, it's say that all my applications use something like 170gb. but when checking the applications folder it comes with a more realistic 18,6 gb.. ? how can I locate these ghost programs and get rid of them..

Have tried to search the web, it doesn't seem to happen to other, its always the "other" or backup files.

Re-index Macintosh HD.

Spotlight reindexing will take a while to finish.

System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2409

You will see a new category “Other” in the Storage Display.

About “Other”:

Note:

If you don’t have Macintosh HD icon on the desktop,

Finder > Preferences > General > Show these items on the desktop:

Enable “Hard disks”.
