Image Capture not scanning

I have a Retina MBP (Mid 2012) running 10.10.3 and use an Epson NX430 printer. Image capture worked fine last week. Today, after I press the scan button, all I get is a message to 'Please select area to scan', however there is no image to select from. If I click the show details button, I get to a screen where I can get an 'overview image' and then have to select the image by dragging an outline of it, and THEN it will light up the scan button. Any idea why the extra steps when last week I could just put a paper document of my printer and just press scan? Any suggestions on how to get it back to how it was? I have not changed any settings in Image Capture.
