cannot hear caller through earpiece on phone

Suddenly, I am unable to hear caller through ear piece on my iPhone 5. I am able to hear through speaker phone only. I have tried all the "little tricks" suggested on discussion boards. Nothing is working. Can someone please help!!?? Thanks! JosieM1946
