Q: How do I close LOTS of open spaces/desktops?

I recently checked in on a computer that is running a keynote slideshow on multiple screens. It has over 270 spaces or desktops open. How do I, en masse, close them? There are so many that I cannot hover over the 'X' to do it. I have tried shutting down the system with the save open windows box unchecked, no luck there.

I've begun dragging desktops to the external monitor where I can close them one at a time, but that is going to be a long tedious process.

I guess you did not get an answer ?

    Did you find a solution

This 'bug' or feature of OSX is really annoying me too.  I have had up to about 150 spaces..and so far the only way I have found is to sit there and keep hitting the X to close each space.  And this is not even as easy as it sounds, and the "X" moves fractionally each time a space closes.

I NEVER NEVER NEVER have intentionally used spaces, I never open a new space.

Yes I have 4 monitors and have them set to '"Displays have separate spaces" as I like the ability to have a menu bar in each window.

Someone said on anther thread that OSX automatically creates a new space each time a window is maximised..but when that window is 'shrunk' or closed, the spaces is not removed.

I have just found a 'sort of ' solution.

If you hit the Mission Control 'F3' key and bring up the row of icons showing the multiple spaces across the top of the screen, then hit HOLD the ALT key, the 'X' to clos appears on all spaces.

Then if you select the 'X' one the very left most space, and rapidly  click the mouse, they do all rapidly close..the Cursor does not appear to be over the 'X' but it does not seem to matter.  You then only have to move the mouse to the exact 'X' position once you get to the last 10 or so spaces.
