Mute turning on by itself

My apple watch seems to turn on muting of the sounds every so often in its own. I notice this because I sometimes get haptic touches with no sound and I go into settings on the watch or watch app on the iPhone and notice that sound has been muted. Anyone else seeing this or have any idea how to fix it?

This probably won't help! I hear that the watch can be muted by holding your hand over it for 3 seconds. Blocking the light to the watch face in some other way probably does the same thing. When I heard about this it was in the context of muting a call but maybe if the watch face is covered at some other time it is going to silent. I confess I have tried to make my watch go on silent by covering it - while no alerts were sounding - and it didn't go to mute. So that may or may not be related.

Mine does the very same thing. And it' s not because I've put my hand over the face, either.

Randomly turns mute on. I've become extremely frustrated - mostly because the Apple Watch has the same sound for every notification I receive, minus telephone calls. I am constantly missing texts as they get buried under notifications and it's too much to search through when you have a lot of notifications. I belong to 2 GroupMe groups that are constantly pinging my phone and I end up not seeing my texts - so double this aggravation when Mute is turned on unexpectedly.

Wow! I've been wondering about this since I got it. Now, the question: do I like the feature enough to leave it on and just immediately swipe up to turn global mute off or do I just turn off the cover to mute feature altogether? I rarely complain or even think about "asking" for improvements but I guess this is one. I'd like to see a secondary option for "mute for this sound only."
