Duplicate project

Why I'm I unable to "duplicate project" or "duplicate project snapshot" with out it saving my original after editing the new project?

It works for the first few seconds and then the original get edited automatically if I try to work on the new copy. Something is seems very wrong. Is it something i'm doing? If I edit the new duplicate project it also changes the old project less than a minute later.

I'm trying to save a copy of what I have and edit a new (2nd) version from what I have already created.

DO your projects contain multicam clips or compound clips? These will update in duplicate projects, but should not update in snapshots. Post screen shots of what you're seeing.

Thanks for the response Tom. No... the project is just a single cam, simple project. I'll try a few other ways to save the project before I delete sections again. This is my first project on Final Cut Pro X so I must be doing something wrong with the "duplicate project."
