Airplay mirroring not displaying correctly

when I connect my iPad to the tv via AirPlay and using mirroring everything looks ok until I open a special app I have. The app is made to run in landscape mode on the iPad (which it displays correctly) but on my tv it is rotated 90 degrees and half of it is off the screen. It would be like if you were looking at a landscape picture of a sunset, then you turned that picture 90 degrees so the horizon was now vertical, then folded the pictue in half.
