Iphone 5 - IOS8.3 - Over Heating and Discharching

Any ideas?

iphone 5 - recently updated to ios8.3

Phone was in dock all day, unplugged it and it was very very, hot, to hot to hold comfortably.

I also noticed that the charge displayed was 88% and slowly dropping, no apps open, good cellular signal.

I turned it off for a brief moment, as it went off the screen flashed brightly a couple of times.

It then took 5 attempts of turning the power on to get it to work.

The phone is now gradually losing 10% charge every 15 minutes now (off-charge) and is getting cooler.

Is it time to chuck it in the bin?

Here you can find some useful tips on how to make the battery life of your device longer. They work for both iOS 8.2 and iOS 8.3.

Some iPhone 5 units have faulty batteries and can be replaced by Apple for no charge. More info here: https://www.apple.com/support/iphone5-battery/

You're going to need someone at Apple to help,

  • go here > Apple - Support - Product Selection
  • choose iPhone
  • choose Battery (etc)
  • choose Topic not listed
  • Enter " overheating " > [Continue]
  • (optional) enter your phone number > [Continue]
  • , choose your preferred option - seems taking it to Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider might be in order, but...
