How do I delete files from my startup disk so I can erase my free space?

    Move them to an external HDD if you wish to keep them, then to trash, and empty trash.  Only when trash is emptied is space opened for additional data.

     

    As an aid, download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper (free) and open it.  It will show all of your files and the respective sizes.
