Partitioned ipod

My ipod has somehow been partitioned was appearing as "Data" in iTumes and contains no songs. It used to appear as "Pauls iPod" with all my music visible. The iPod worked fine and all the music was playable when not plugged in to my computer, but any music i added to it in iTunes was not visible when not using it through iTunes. So i have done a factory reset. Now the iPod itself says 27 Gig free, (this is good as it's a 30 Gig model), and no music. When plugged in, iTunes says it is a 68 Gig iPod, (no it's not), and there is only 6 Gig free as it contains 62 Gig of "Other" data, none of which i can see through iTunes. When i copy my susic over to the iPod i can see and play it through iTunes, but not through the ipod itself. Any advice anyone could give would be much appreciated.
