Into what folder do my new imported pictures from my iPhone go in the Photos app on my mac?

I am not seeing any new album in the photos app on my mac after i import new pictures from my iPhone. Do they not go into any album? Where can I find them in terms of albums? Or do I need to place them manually into an album after importing? Please help! I was so used to having a new album every time I imported picture in my iPhoto app before and then merge it into an existing album and so on. I love to keep everything organized and this is going to drive me insane.
