You can start by ordering Snow Leopard, as long as you have an intel processor.

We need to know if your iMac ihas an intel processor or the older PowerPC processor. If PowerPC, it cannot be upgraded past 10.5.8.
Doing "About this Mac" will answer that question, so please provide that info from the line I've indicated with the second red arrow in the image below--then we can know how to proceed with upgrade advice.
