Devolo dLAN 500 AV Triple Wireless+ and iOS 8 problem

Hi there,

I have a strange problem with a Devolo PowerLine unit.

Started some weeks ago (more or less), I can't surf anymore trough the Devolo wireless.

Let me explain:

I have 2 iPhone 6 and 2 iPhone 6 Plus all with iOS 8.3 installed. I have a Fritz Box on one side of my house, a Devolo master unit attached to it, and on the other side of the house a Devolo dLAN 500 AV Triple Wireless+ with a wired smart TV.

The smart TV has no problem to connect to internet, but the iPhones can't surf. They can connect to the Devolo Wifi, they can change the Devolo's configuration, but no surfing.

I tried to change the SSID, the channel, the password, but nothing seems to work. The funny part is that a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 works without any problem in the same conditions.

To be honest, the Devolo firmware is not up to date, but the problem is specific to the iPhones. An iPad Air with iOS 8 I got a month ago had has no problem to surf.

Any clue?

TIA

To whom it may concern

Hardware:

FritzBox 7390 ADSL2 Router

Older gen. FritzWLAN Repeater

FritzPowerline 546

before the FritzPowerline it was a Devolo Powerline (see the parent message).

Situation:

The FritzBox has it's own WLAN (both 2.4 and 5GHz) repeated (2.4GHz) by the FritzWlan Repeater.

The FritzPowerline has it's own WLan (2.4GHz).

Symptom:

The problem is that the iPhones doesn't connect (to internet - they do connect to the wireless) trough the Powerline. My MacBook Pro Retina does and a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 does.

The iPhones seems to connect, but then they goes in timeout. If I insist after a minute or so I can charge a page, but OBVIOUSLY this isn't feasible. They make the connection trough the powerline only if the Samsung made it before the iPhones ... *** ???

Solution?:

I checked the log file inside the FritzBox and saw that a unit tried to make the WiFi connection at 5GHz, but the connection was refused (the powerline is 2.4 GHz only). Thus I deactivated the 5GHz WiFi and now the thing "SEEMS" to work properly. ... RE-***???

Considerations:

It seems that the iPhones try to make the connection at 5GHz even the WiFi is only 2.4GHz capable. In the place where the iPhones connect the powerline WiFi there is enough signal from the other WLAN (FritzBox/repeater), but I think the signal is captured from the Repeater which is only 2.4GHz capable.

Before I deactivated the 5GHz WLAN on the FritzBox, the iPhones has no problems to connect to internet (in the same place where they connect trough the powerine) but the physical distance from the base is too high (IMHO) that they connect directly to it: I think they connect trough the Repeater (but I have made no investigation on it).

Your's considerations/recommendations ?
