Is a SSD drive worth it for performance increase?

I am considering upgrading my main Mac HD to a SSD drive in hopes that this will increase performance in FCP X. Is the $400 or so worth it or will I not see much in the way of additional speed (rendering and so forth)?

You can search for the term SSD and see several threads. The consensus seems to be your machine will improve startup and application launch routines but you will not get tangible improvements in video handling
