I am trying to port forward my time capsule and after configuring it and restarting, I get a flashing amber light and I can't find it in my airport utility. I am forced to restart the device, losing my configuration. Is there a solution to this? The TC is brand new last year version 7.7.3

Any port forwarding on the Time Capsule requires that you will be using a simple modem with the TC.....and not a modem/router or gateway type of device that most Internet Service Providers supply to their customers.
A simple modem looks like this......note that there is only one Ethernet port on the device.
A modem/router or gateway will look something like this, for example:
So, before we can discuss port forwarding, or port mapping, as Apple calls it, we need to confirm that you have the correct type of modem that would allow the TC to be configured to allow port mapping to occur.
What is the make and model number of your modem?

Have you checked to make sure that the firewall is not turned on with the modem?
Next, you need a static WAN side Internet IP address from your provider. Got that covered?
After that, what exactly are you trying to accomplish? What port values are required?
Ok well I'm simply trying to forward port 22 so I can ssh to my raspberry pi I will plug into the TC. After doing all the configuration, the TC restarts, but doesn't broadcast the WiFi network so I have to reset it and lose my configuration.
Sorry, I am not familiar with the raspberry pi, so you will need to wait for another user who can help on that.
It has nothing to do with the raspberry pi. The fact is, I change the configuration of the TC and restart to commit the changes and it restarts but never broadcasts the WiFi and I get a flashing amber light.
Sorry, I cannot possibly duplicate the same setup that you have to create the same issue. If I could, I might be able to figure things out and come up with a solution.
