HI.. can not restore my iPad on my mac... it asked me to downlad new version of IOS and I did,,still nothing

Question

i get this mesagge:

Your iPad can’t be updated; you must restore it to factory settings.

then when i try to do it i get this message:

an unknown error occurred (17)

help!

Hi. You may try to reset it to factory settings:

This won't delete your data stored on device.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
Press and hold on the Home button
Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off and back on with Apple logo on it.

Alternatively, you may go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings
