The cd/dvd will eject using the player's eject button. It will also eject from the dvd player menu. The eject key on the keyboard does nothing. F12 doesn't eject either. How do you get that key working?

Are you holding the F12 key for a few seconds?
Might try this...
On your main hard drive, dig down into System > Library > CoreServices > Menu Extras. Inside that window, double-click on the icon called Eject.menu.
F12 key brings up weather, clock, temp apps on the screen. When I click the eject.menu, the icon flashes quickly and nothing happens.

Yes, the icon is there. When I click it, it says "no drive." I just played a DVD to test the drive and it worked.
Is it possible the dvd drive is not mounted in the system? I don't see any icon for it by the hard drive icon. What does the "no drive" message indicate?

Open Disk Utility & see if it shows there & can be ejected or mounted as a test.
Disk utility shows only the hard drive.
Is this an internal or external Disc Drive?
Does it Show up in System Info?
Internal DVD-rom and probably the original one. I looked under "about this mac" and it shows up under ATA with the hard drive.
