HD in Apple TV and SD in iOS.

Due to the storage space in my iPad and iPhone. Is there a way to view HD content in Apple TV by default and have the iOS devices set to SD permanitly.

IF I check the box in my iTunes on my Mac or account to only use SD content. Will my Apple TV not use HD? Of course, I can pick and choose for Mac. Thanks.
