Airplay in OS X is only supported on new computer:

That being said, iTunes does allow AirPlay for iTunes content. Make sure you are on the latest version of iTunes. If you are still unable to share a video from iTunes then lets troubleshoot AirPlay.

Just so I understand correctly, you are wanting to share streaming video from outside iTunes (such as a Safari video)?

As stated before your computer does not support AirPlay due to its age outside of iTunes.

Yes you can connect your computer via a wire. You will need a Mini DVI to HDMI wire. I hope this helps!

I have iMac and apple TV on the same wifi network, but i am not able to share the contect with apple TV. The icone of AirPlay doesnt appear at all (only if i want share sound tracks ).

Airplay is not supported on a 2007 iMac!!!! Please read AirPlay's system requirements below:

Minimum requirements if your Mac and Apple TV are on the same network:

• Apple TV (2nd generation or later) with the latest Apple TV software
• Any of these Mac computers with OS X Mountain Lion v10.8 or later:
  • iMac (Mid 2011 or later)
  • Mac mini (Mid 2011 or later)
  • MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or later)
  • MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or later)
  • Mac Pro (Late 2013 or later)You

However you should look into AirParrot (http://www.airsquirrels.com/airparrot) and I believe you will find that works with your machine.
