how do you remove an icon that wont delete

If it is an icon for a system app, such as Photos, Music, etc, it is not possible to delete it. If it is a purchased app and it won't delete when wiggling and tapping the x, try deleting it from the app page when the phone is connected to the computer.

You cannot remove a stock Apple app (an app that came with the iPhone). If it is an application that you downloaded from the app store that will not delete after you hit the "x" then try rebooting the iPhone. Press and hold the power button until you see slide to power off.

Another thing to check is to see if you have a restriction turned on to prevent app deletion.

The iOS built in apps can't be deleted (Apple Watch, Tips, Stocks, Newsstand, etc). You can 'hide' them by grouping those apps in a folder and move the group to a different home screen in the back.

But, if you are not being able to delete any app, you could have enabled a restrictions to prevent apps from being deleted - something useful if you have kids that play with your iPhone 🙂.
