Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.3

So in all seriousness, what can we do? Are we supposed to just buy a new iPhone? Or perhaps swap to Android, even though we have large investments in the Apple eco system.

Should I start an online petition? I'm just not sure what approach to take as a consumer.

Not sure what you can do.  I had no luck at all.  I was still in warranty and they traded my phone for a refurbished phone with had the same problem out of the box.  I had no luck after that. Finally made the switch after several months of screen twisting

The truth is not welcome here, and this post will disappear as have all others of its kind. We think because to leave it up would amount to evidence that Apple knew about this problem for longer than they will like to admit when a class action suit is eventually brought. It is a design flaw in the iPhone 6 Plus. The precise cause of the problem is now well known, and there are a couple of fixes, requiring specialized skills. I have been a big fan of Apple since their Day One, but don't let them gaslight you on this problem, and don't pay them (again) for a refurbished phone. Either get it fixed privately, or keep giving it a little twist by holding the opposite corners, until that stops working.

All of this happened to me recently as well. For the last 3 months, I would give my iPhone 6 plus a little twist and it would fix the problem for awhile...then the other day, gave it a little twist like I usually do, and the screen shattered...I mean one little subtle twist shattered it like I dropped it off a building or something...guess all of the twisting weakened the glass maybe? Anyway, made an appointment with the genius bar, guy had seen the problem many times and said let me check something though...he went and talked to a manager, and then came back and said "I tried to see if there's ANYTHING we can do for you. I asked if we could get you a deal on a display model or something and I'm sorry but we just can't because it's outside of the warranty...best we can do is offer you a refurbed one for $320". I said yeah but it will most likely have the same problem, correct?" and he said "Yeah, honestly the iphone 6plus is the most unreliable phone we have...I would put a piece of tape over the screen to keep the glass particles off your fingers, and wait for the iphone 7"...so I left and haven't decided what to do yet. I'm pretty frustrated. I wanted to keep this phone for a really long time. I fully expect to get a notice in the mail about 2 years from now when I've long forgotten about it that says "You've been identified as a person that experienced this and are entitled to some money in a class action lawsuit"....then I'll send it in and a year later, I'll suddenly get a $5 check in the mail. LOL!

MY boyfriend and I each have gone through 2 iPhone 6 pluses because of this issue and only this issue. He was annoyed with it and bought the 6S plus in March and hasn't had a single issue with his. My 6 plus just started doing this again. Has anyone had experience with the in store trade in program? I still have his old one so I was wondering if they would at least accept these for credit towards a new one.

The same thing happened to my 6 plus after about a year and a half. I got so bad that I went to Verizon last Saturday and they sent me a replacement phone that arrived on Monday (free replacement due to a defective product). I activated the replacement phone that day and 5 days later it is worse than my previous device. I have another replacement coming on Tuesday. I am not going to put it back in my otterbox case because I think the pressure on the phone adds to the issue.

really ... 51 replies? I'm subscribed to this thread and I've gotten WAY more responses than that.

I'm on my 3rd device after having this issue last year. is it really an acceptable remedy that the user of an extremely expensive device a few days out of warranty is offered a refurbished device for $300 plus? I was lucky enough to have AppleCare Plus but the reason I buy that is in case I do something silly like drop my iPhone down the toilet, not to cover significant design flaws.

Personally I find it quite disgusting Apple have no effort whatsoever to respond to this thread or admit the design fault, but they happily sit in the background deleting any post which threatens to explain the fix to this issue.

This is a user-to-user forum technical support forum. Apple does not participate in it. If you want a response from Apple use the Contact Us link at the bottom of every page.

I agree.  I posted a whole paragraph explaining about the design flaw and chips that need to be replaced to fix the issue.  I didn't bash apple, just simply pointed out the solution to the problem and they deleted my comment for no apparent reason.  Got a email saying "We’ve removed your post Re: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen from the Apple Support Communities site because it contained some questionable advice."  At least i posted a advice that solves the problem rather than just telling people to do a restore or buy a refurb phone from them which will have the same issue after the 90 days!!

Apple states, pretty explicitly, that they don't participate much in the forums. If you want help from Apple, you'll need to contact support using the provided methods. Click on the word "Support" in the upper right of this page.

The people who are in charge of enforcing the Terms of Use, the Hosts, are not Apple Tech Support nor do they make policy statements (beyond those directly related to Forum Operations) or decisions. They have a very difficult job to do. Criticizing them will do absolutely nothing to resolve your issue. Personally, I find it rude.

Apple does not consider iPhones user serviceable. Allowing people to post instructions on how to do such repairs here gives the appearance that Apple may endorse such instructions. There are plenty of other places you can post information you believe will solve the issue.

Apple's official policy is that there are no user-serviceable parts in an iPhone. Thus, any advice that includes self-service is considered by Apple to be questionable advice.

They don't seem to be apple serviceable either, or there wouldn't be so many people with multiple phones with the same problem
